Paula taught me how to make an awesome mirliton dressing. She didn’t take any crap and don’t mess with her grandchildren. She was a sweet lady and I am happy to have called her a friend. We stayed in touch after her retirement and she will be missed. Kimberly Ogletree

Paula and I got off to a rocky start in 1999 but once we got to really know each other, there was no turning back. We formed a beautiful friendship that I will forever cherish. While she may be known for her lemon and rum cakes, to me she is known for her fabulous strawberry cake. She would make them for me for my birthday or just because. She always wanted to do things for people. We ate lunch together often and she would always bring me the most delicious leftovers from the night before. After I moved in 2006, there wasn’t a birthday, wedding anniversary, or even Bureau anniversary where I didn’t receive a card or FB post. She was never late, either. She always gave and never expected anything in return. Paula always asked about my kids and husband and always told me what a beautiful family I had. I use the word “always” because she never stopped doing or caring for the people she loved. I got to see Paula this past July when her grandson Dillon came to Hoover, AL to play baseball. She was so incredibly proud of her grandkids. I was so excited to see her, Hubert, Johnny, and Bridget. We had the shortest, best visit ever and I am so happy we memorialized it in a photo. That photo will sit prominently on my desk. I love you, Paula Spencer! Heaven definitely gained an angel.
