Obituary of Warren Joseph Scelson
Warren Joseph Scelson, our hero, our heart, and now our angel, entered into Eternal Rest on February 6, 2021 at the age of 79. He is the devoted husband of Marlene Vidosh Scelson; beloved father of Julie Scelson-Gibson (Brian), Melissa Scelson-Ducote (Bobby), and Courtney E. Scelson; proud grandpa and Paw Paw of Austin Farthing, Ridge Gibson, Chloe Ducote, and Christian Ducote; caring brother of Pat Scelson Hynes and the late John Scelson Jr., Audrey Scelson Monjure, and Paul Scelson; and loving brother-in-law of Andrea Vidosh. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Genevieve Appel Scelson and John Henry Scelson Sr.
Warren was born in Mobile, Alabama, spent most of his childhood in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was a longtime resident of Kenner, Louisiana. He attended Warren Easton High and proudly served in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. In 1972, he met and married the love of his life, Marlene. They shared 48 years together and many cherished memories. Warren was formerly employed with United Fruit as a telegraph operator, Trans-American Refinery as a warehouse manager, the City of Kenner with code enforcement, and later worked and retired from East Jefferson Hospital as a transcription technician. He was an avid LSU fan and dedicated family man. He was an active parishioner at St. Philip Neri Church in Metairie and spent much of his time in Mass, praying the Rosary, or in Adoration. Warren’s faith carried him through many difficult times, including his courageous three-year battle with lung cancer. His unwavering faith and strength remain the anchor for his family and his generous spirit, infectious smile, and sense of humor will never be forgotten. Warren enjoyed quiet days at home, trips to the casino, and anything sweet, but he loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his four grandbabies.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation (adhering to social distancing guidelines) on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Harry Bugler followed by Military Honors will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Warren will be laid to rest at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation are preferred. Rosaries said in Mr. Warren’s memory are also appreciated. The Scelson Family would like to thank Dr. Nuttli, Dr. Gurtler, Dr. Monsour, Dr. Naccari, the staff of Passages Hospice, and Edward Bourgeois Jr. for their care of Warren.
