Obituary of James “Jim” Patrick McGoey

It is with great sadness that the family of James “Jim” Patrick McGoey announces his passing on February 8, 2021 at the age of 65. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jim was a person of great courage and unusual strength. He had a brilliant mind and gifted hands that allowed him to see a finished design and complete it without instructions. Jim stirred those he came across with his passion and fervor. He felt fiercely and loved relentlessly.

Jim graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1973 and went on to attend the University of New Orleans. Jim met his partner in crime and great love, Laurie, a few years after. They bonded and built a life centered on music, openness, and heart. They jointly filled their house and their children’s lives with singing (sometimes off-key), dancing, and love. Jim worked as a computer analyst for 30 years, combining his keen eye for detail with his love of technology. He worked remotely in his home office for the last several years of his life, where he could often be found blasting the Beatles and Kinks and other 60’s greats. His children remain eternally grateful for his musical influence and unerring affection.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Laurie Haese McGoey. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michael T. McGoey (Stephanie), Kristen J. McGoey, and Sean P. McGoey  and his grandchildren, Catherine L. McGoey and Abigail G. McGoey. He is the son of Elden M. and Loyce S. McGoey (both deceased) and the brother of Michael McGoey (Suzette) and Carol Rider (Steve). He is the uncle of Hannah Bergman (Tanner), Rachael Fournet (Johnny), Eric Rider, Kenneth Rider, Gregory Rider, and Shane McGoey.

Jim’s family is holding a small, private service at Lamb of God Lutheran Church located at 57210 Allen Road in Slidell, LA 70461 on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Those who wish to attend the service virtually may view a live feed on the Lamb of God Lutheran Church Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice are requested.  Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
