Obituary of Roy James Pomes

Roy James Pomes, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on March 14, 2021 at the age of 78.  He was a native of Arabi/Chalmette, born on February 24, 1943 to the late Estelle Benton and Eugene Pomes.  Roy is the beloved husband of 39 years to his devoted wife, Carol Pomes.  He also leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his son, Roy Jude Pomes and his wife, Brenda; children, Roy Joseph Pomes, Lauren Pomes; and stepdaughter, Renee Pinac.  Roy is also survived by his daughter, Stephanie Pell and her husband, Richard and grandchildren, Easton, Nolan (in heaven with his “Pee-Paw”), and Rylan Pell. Additionally, Roy’s daughter, Brittany Pomes and grandson, Dawson Reynolds.

Anyone who knew Roy knew that he loved to work and take care of his customers.  He had no hobbies but many jobs in his lifetime.  He grew up in Arabi/Chalmette and did everything from delivering doughnuts to driving a school bus to being a barber to building houses.  He was a self-made entrepreneur in which he owned Slidell Exxon and Hwy. 11 Exxon and also helped his son, Roy, with Cross Gates Exxon.  He also owned a Firestone Store called The Automotive Center of Slidell.  He received joy in helping others and took pride in growing his businesses.   When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed watching his girls play sports and travelled to see them play in college.  He was very religious and would attend the 7:30 a.m. Mass at St. Luke’s Catholic Church every Sunday and always sat in the first pew.  He made lots of friends, made lots of memories, and will be greatly be missed by all who knew him, but friends and family can take comfort in knowing Roy is finally at peace with God.  The family would like to express their gratitude to Park Provence Senior Living, where Roy lived for the past three years of his life fighting Alzheimer’s.  We appreciate all who had the pleasure of taking care of “Mr. Roy” as he was known.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation (adhering to social distancing guidelines) on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 9:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Slidell.  A Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Roy will be laid to rest following services at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home and Cemetery in Metairie, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) are preferred. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
