Obituary of Elvera Lillian Wilhamena Ohler Dunn

Elvera “Vera” Lillian Wilhamena Ohler Dunn, on March 27, 2021, at the age of 88, was greeted in Heaven by her husband and best friend of 72 years, Dewey Hampton Dunn Sr. and her beloved late son, Walter L. Dunn. She was the loving mother of Dewey Hampton Dunn Jr. (Dianne) and Mary Louise Stanton (Richard) and was like a mother to her youngest sister, Laurie Catalano (Gerry).

Loving and proud grandmother to Lisa McMahon, Brittany Tucker Lewis (Sid), Brandi Frey-Crawford, Trey Dunn  (Jennifer), Jennifer Stanton Stauter (Dustin), Heather Stanton Tauzier (Nick), Paul Catalano (Amber), Andrew Catalano (Rebecca), and James Catalano (Adrienne).

Phenomenal great-grandmother to Trey Crawford, McKenna Tucker, Envi Frey, Aubrey Tucker, Cy Tucker, and Jax McMahon.

Vera was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and was the eldest of eleven children born to the late Lawrence and Mary Ohler.

Dear sister and friend to Evelyn McDaniel (late), Lawrence Ohler (late), Jackie Snyder, Delores Guidry, Billy Ohler, Raymond Ohler (late), Merlin Ohler, Johnny Ohler (late), Freddy Ohler (late), and Laurie Catalano and many nieces and nephews.

Vera met her husband at Pontchartrain Beach while he was stationed at New Orleans Army Air Base, Camp Leroy Johnson. They married and she served as a military spouse of the U.S. Army for twenty-one years, stationed in Germany, Georgia, and NOLA while raising their three children.

Vera lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, proficient homemaker, and energetic babysitter to most of the above offspring up until the last few years of her life. She believed taking care of her “babies” and their homes kept her young. She also ensured that every animal that crossed her path was well fed. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
