Obituary of Peter Henry “Rooney” Graffagnino
Peter Henry “Rooney” Graffagnino, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at age 80 following complications from surgery. Rooney, as he was known by many friends, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from De La Salle High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Rose Graffagnino and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lynn Graffagnino; son, David Graffagnino; daughter-in-law Andrea Graffagnino; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Joseph.
Pete was a Quality Control Specialist for many years, working within the space program and eventually leaving to pursue his dream of opening his own business. From small beginnings of a storefront in his garage to eventually opening Gulf Outlet in Slidell, which he operated for 20 years until his retirement in 1996. Pete had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, traveling in their motor home, and target shooting. He relished dining out with friends and family, socializing with his golfing buddies, and looked forward to his weekly card games. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him. Pete’s family wishes to thank all of the nurses and doctors at Slidell Memorial Hospital that cared for Pete.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, May 6, 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 910 Cross Gates Blvd. in Slidell, LA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Pete will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Cemetery located at 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, LA following services.
