Obituary of Joseph Emery Bourgeois Jr.

Joseph Emery Bourgeois Jr., of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on May 15, 2021 at the age of 83.  He was born in Richard, Louisiana on New Year’s Day of 1938 to the late Joseph Emery Bourgeois Sr. and Delia Andrepont Bourgeois.  

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rita Amy Bourgeois; adoring children, Denice B. Dare (Michael), Monica B. Sperier (Eddie), Jacquelyn Bourgeois, Rhonda B. Serpas (Rusty), Yvette B. McKinley (Dennis), Rita E. Bourgeois, and Joseph E. Bourgeois III (Jamie); 17 grandchildren, James Quinlan, Steven Quinlan, Scott Quinlan, Melissa Quinlan Adcox, Bertrand Briere, Jonathan Briere, Brittany Briere Douglas, Russell Serpas, Nicholas Serpas, Shane McKinley, Sarah McKinley, Victoria Bauer, Makayla Bauer, Darian Bourgeois Lasseigne, Hannah Bourgeois, Jolie Bourgeois, and Amelie Bourgeois; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, James Bourgeois, Charles Bourgeois, and Phyllis Bourgeois Whellis.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carroll Bourgeois and Harold Bourgeois.

Joseph was a resident of Lake Charles, LA for 26 years, Chalmette, LA for 34 years, and Slidell, LA for 23 years.  He retired from the Mobile Refinery in Chalmette, LA. Joseph cherished his father-and-son time hunting and fishing, carpentry, playing the guitar, music, golfing, and dancing to Cajun music.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, May 31, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Genevieve Church located at 58203 LA-433 in Slidell 70460.  A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. There will not be a reception to follow. Interment will take place at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles, Louisiana at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory to St. Joseph’s Hospice in Slidell and St. Genevieve Catholic Church are preferred.  Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
