Obituary of Ourania “Rania” Mantikos
Ourania “Rania” Mantikos, of Kenner, Louisiana, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, Louisiana at the age of 74.
Rania was born in Leros, Greece to Stavros and Angeliki Kalandranis on November 29, 1946. She attended Alinda Primary School, and upon completing Junior High School in Greece, she was taught embroidery and sewing. She attended hair school and even had a salon with her sister in Greece. In addition to proudly being an amazing and loving mother to her three children, her husband had short term memory loss and she was willfully his caretaker for almost 25 years. When she had spare time from preparing her delicious cooking, baking, and taking care of her family’s daily needs, Rania was in the President’s Club as an Avon Sales Representative for many years and was a hairstylist to her family and friends. She was a proud parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New Orleans. Through the years, she was a member of the Daughters of Penelope, Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, and the Holy Trinity PTA, where she served as PTA President for 10 years. She loved to volunteer at church for different events, such as the annual Greek Festival of New Orleans and for celebrations such as New Year’s Eve, Greek Independence Day, Easter, Masquerade Party, and Christmas, just to name a few. Rania loved spending time with her family, including her seven grandchildren, as well as all of her friends.
Rania Mantikos is survived by her daughter, Paraskevi “Vicki” McCallef (Anthony) of Slidell, LA; daughter, Angeliki “Angela” Gervais (Derrick) of Boutte, LA; son, Vasili Mantikos (Miranda) of Kenner, LA; sister, Maro Fasoli (Stavros) of Greece; brother, Manolis Kalandranis (Koula) of Greece; sister, Evaggelia Giannakos (Giorgos) of Greece; her seven grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe, Konstantine, Stavros, Anthony, Mihaeli, and Nektarios; as well as many nieces and nephews here in the United States and abroad. She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Konstantine Mantikos, and her loving parents, Stavros and Angeliki Kalandranis.
