Obituary of Barry T. Philburn

Barry T. Philburn passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the age of 69. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Robert T. Philburn and Lois M. Philburn. Barry is survived by his mother, Lois M. Philburn; his wife, Gloria R. Philburn; his daughters, Jennifer P. Billiot (Brad Billiot) and Christina E. Philburn (William Bradford); three beautiful granddaughters, Avery Bradford, Adeline Bradford, and Aubrie Bradford; and his siblings, Stephen J. Philburn and Nancy A. Philburn. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, other family members, and numerous lifelong friends.

Barry was a lifelong resident of Metairie, LA. He attended St. Mary Magdalen Grammar School and East Jefferson High School, where he was a member of the Delta Phi Sigma Fraternity. After graduating from East Jefferson in 1971, Barry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1972. Following an honorable discharge, Barry joined the Green Marine Industrial family. After more than 40 years of dedicated service, Barry planned on retiring at the end of this year. Barry was a huge LSU, Boston Red Sox, and UNC basketball fan. He was a proud member of the Brew Crew basketball team. He enjoyed watching Nascar and his legendary trips to Talladega with his Talladega family. Barry loved Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's Day, and listening to music, especially his extensive album collection. Barry was uniquely special to everyone who had the honor of meeting him. He was known as “Poppa Barry” to all of his daughters' friends. Barry had a contagious laugh and infectious smile and loved to have a good time. He was a selfless person and enjoyed helping others. Barry will always be loved and greatly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A funeral service will begin in the chapel at noon. Barry will be laid to rest at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
