Thomas Michael O’Callaghan Sr., of Cheraw, South Carolina, died unexpectedly on October 16, 2021, in Picayune, Mississippi. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, born on October 15, 1957 to Mary Martus and the late Joseph O’Callaghan. Tommy was the oldest of his five siblings who survived him; Roseann Bohar (Greg), Mary O’Callaghan, James O’Callaghan (Mary), and Dianna Luff (Bobby) along with 14 nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his son, Thomas “Tommy” O’Callaghan Jr.
After serving in the Navy, he began his career as an electrician until a traumatic work injury led him to retire. Afterwards, he moved to Cheraw, SC to be closer to his brother, Jim. Tommy was a proud card carrying member of the Handyman’s Club of America. Tommy, like his father, could fix anything and always let it be known he was the smartest man in the room. He liked classic rock and he LOVED to cook. He could often be found at Billy’s or Brady’s or helping neighbors, friends, and family with handyman things. He also loved to help his brother Jimmy, owner of O’Callaghan Cable Services.
On October 15, 2021, Tommy happily celebrated his birthday having lunch on Lake Pontchartrain with his brother, Jim. They had dinner complete with birthday cake and singing. That night after celebrating, he went to sleep and did not wake up. Tommy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. An Irish wake will be held for Tommy in Charleston, South Carolina at the home of his sister and brother-in-law. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations at lightningstrike.org are preferred.
