Obituary of Wesley “Pops” Norman Shannon

Wesley Norman Shannon, “Pops”, entered into God’s Heavenly home on October 28, 2021 at the age of 65 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on January 5, 1956 in Dallas, Texas, where he lived until 15 years ago when he moved to Lacombe, Louisiana to live near his son, Chris. Wesley leaves behind his son, Chris (wife, Michelle Shannon); daughter, Katy (husband, Robert Wells); daughter, Della (husband, Darrin Ralston); and daughter, Leslie Shannon. Pop’s loved his grandchildren, Robert Anthony (wife, Jordan), Kaylea (husband, Anthony), Wade, Riley, Victoria, Kristen (husband, Jordan), Mariah, Frankee, Skylor, Katy, Chris, Deborah, Sadie, and Xaiden and great-grandchildren, Brady, Bodhi, Isaac, Baylor, Lila, and baby Riley.

Wesley was a loving brother and brother-in-law to sister, Cheryl Shannon; sister, Angela Brownrigg (husband, Johnny); sister, Mary Brookshire (husband, Dean); brother, George “Tony” Gant (wife, Debbie); brother, Steve Teague (wife, Jennie); brother, Nicholas Teague (wife, Cindy); brothers, Bobby Gant and Ronnie Gant (wife, Dorothy); and sister, Jackie Martin (husband, Bobby).  Wes was a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley E. Shannon and Glenna Gant; his stepfather, George Gant (wife, Margaret);  and sister , Mary Jane Gant and Martha Shannon.

Wes worked in the newspaper distribution with the Times Herald Greensheets, Dallas Morning News, and Wall Street Journal for over 25 years. He enjoyed his music (classic rock and country), cooking, eating with friends and family, NASCAR, Dallas Cowboys, refurbishing vehicles (shocks and sound), fishing, and riding his Harley. Pops loved making people happy. He was a protector and would give you the shirt off his back. We will miss his sense of humor, personality, love, generosity, and devotion to his family and friends. To know Pops was to know a man of genuine kindness. He had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Heart of Hospice.
