Obituary of Carl “Chick” Sanders Sr.

Carl “Chick” Sanders Sr. was born on August 9, 1947 in Tensas Parish, Louisiana. He is the son of Christella Hunter and Charlie Sanders. Carl departed this life on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport, Mississippi at 2:45 a.m.

Carl accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. Carl was a member in good standing at Pearl River Community Seventh-day Adventist Church in Poplarville, Mississippi, where Pastor Mung is the pastor.

Carl also attended Richardson Seventh-day Adventist Church in Richardson, Texas. Carl was a member of Mt. Olive Church of Plano, first known as Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Plano, Texas.  Dr. Pastor Samuel Fenceroy is the pastor. Carl was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Dr. Pastor Samuel Fenceroy.

Carl graduated from Thomastown High School in Tallulah, Louisiana. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He did his student teaching in Angie, Louisiana. While at Southern, he participated in the Army ROTC program. After graduating from Southern he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged. He received the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/2 Stars,  Vietnam Campaign Medal W/ 60 Device, Army Commendation Medal 1st AWD, and Good Conduct Medal 1st AWD.

The work he did at UPS as a supervisor prepared him to become self-employed and proficient in various industries. Carl did his work as to Colossians 3:23. “And whatever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men.”

Carl relocated to Picayune, Mississippi in 2009 from Plano, Texas. He semi-retired and did organic gardening.  He also installed flooring for family and friends. There was never a shortage of work for him. He fully retired in 2017. Carl enjoyed working with his hands, gardening, fishing, reading, and flooring. He especially enjoyed being out in the open-air enjoying God’s great creation.

Carl has two children from his first marriage to Jacqueline Brown: Carl Sanders Jr. and Chad Rael Sanders.
