Obituary of Dennis James Neal
Dennis James Neal entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the age of 67 after a long battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Patricia Bourgeois Neal for over 45 years; cherished father of Andre Neal (Mary) and Alexander Neal (Stephanie); and proud grandfather of Kealan, Kennedy, Madeline, Lincoln, and Katherine. He is survived by his siblings, Dianna Neal Roberts (James) and Kenneth Neal (Margie). Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Luther Neal, and his brother, Larry Neal. He is also survived by numerous godchildren, nieces, and nephews that loved him dearly.
Dennis was a native of Golden Meadow, Louisiana, born on September 1, 1954 in Raceland, Louisiana. He was very proud of his Cajun heritage and had deep roots on Bayou Lafourche. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delgado Community College.
He was employed as a Refrigeration Mechanic, specializing in commercial refrigeration for his entire career, including many years at the Ports of New Orleans and Gulfport. He was proud of the work he did that was critical in shipping fresh food around the world.
He was a resident of Slidell, Louisiana for the past 37 years, where he raised his family. He loved his little slice of the bayou in Eden Isles, where he could fish and catch crabs off his back yard dock. Dennis enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid LSU and Saints fan. He treasured the time he spent with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Slidell. A Catholic Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. Dennis will be laid to rest at St. Patrick No. 3 Cemetery in New Orleans on City Park Avenue immediately following the services.
