Obituary of Thais Estelle Durnin

Thais Estelle Durnin, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on February 1, 2022, at the age of 95.  She was born on September 17, 1926, in New Orleans, Louisiana to her loving parents, the late Louis and Elisa Fiegenschue.  Thais is the beloved wife of 70 years to the late George M. Durnin; treasured mother of Diane McBride (Charles), Ronald Durnin (Fay), Cathy Tobin (Nathan), Karen Brouillette (Noel), and the late George Durnin (Carol) and Eric Durnin (Kim); and proud grandmother of Carl, Brad, Ashley, Ryan, Amanda, Amber, George, Katie, Rachel, Chad, Lil Eric, Matthew, and the late Shannon. Additionally, she leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her four siblings: Carrie Fiegenschue, Elisa Fiegenschue McQueen, Norma Fiegenschue, and Louis Fiegenschue.

Thais devoted her life to what she loved most, being a good wife, raising her children, and spending time with her family.  She loved sewing and gardening and was known to have a green thumb.  Thais will be remembered as cooking the best mirliton and oyster stuffing!  She was generous, sassy, quick-witted, and playful.  She was a firecracker and truly one of a kind! Thais was resilient to us and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
