Obituary of Raymond Jude Remerow
After fighting cancer for nearly two years, Raymond Jude Remerow, 74, was granted eternal peace on August 28, 2019, in Slidell, Louisiana.
Ray was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Gertrude Theresa Keller and Raymond Edward Remerow. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1963 and enrolled at Edinboro State University to pursue his interest in art. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education in 1968 and eager to leave behind the Pennsylvania snow, Ray moved to Clewiston, Florida and took a job as an art teacher at Clewiston High School. While the warm weather stole Ray away from the cold Pittsburgh winters of Pennsylvania, it was Barbara Elizabeth McLeod who stole Ray’s heart. Ray and Barbara were married in 1969 and lived in Clewiston where they raised their three children, Erin, Kristoffer, and Tyler.
As an art teacher, Ray taught his students dimensional drawing, ceramics, pottery, and sculpting. Through his lessons, Ray inspired his students and helped them to use their creativity to their full potential to create their own masterpieces. Ray was fondly called Mr. Wonderful and was a favorite teacher of many. He wore purple on Thursdays, which became known as Purple Ray Day and was formally placed on the school calendar. Ray was a beloved art teacher and respected colleague at Clewiston High School, who touched the lives of many, for 37 years.
Outside of the classroom, Ray was a fun and loving husband, father, and Poppy. He enjoyed the outdoors and working with his hands. He could often be found drawing, doing a crossword puzzle, working with clay, building something, mowing the grass, or playing Monopoly. One of Ray’s most favorite past times was swimming. He loved that he could go swimming year-round, especially on Christmas. It became an annual family tradition to jump in the pool on Christmas morning. Ray had a great appreciation for music and enjoyed listening to his favorite band, The Rolling Stones.
Ray and Barbara moved to Slidell, Louisiana in 2007 to be closer to their grandchildren. Ray is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara McLeod Remerow; three children, Erin Remerow Parsons (Scott) of Arlington, Virginia; Kristoffer Jude Remerow (Kristen) of Slidell, Louisiana; and Tyler Raymond Remerow (Monika) of Alexandria, Virginia; 7 grandchildren, Rae Elizabeth (18), Sykes (15) and Carlisle (8) Parsons; Kyleigh (16), Kendall (13), and Kadyn (7) Remerow, and Jude Remerow (11months); 2 brothers, James Satterfield, Jr. (Stephanie) of Mount Dora, Florida and Kimberly Satterfield of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; 2 brothers-in-law, Ken McLeod (Olga) of Rome, Georgia and Larry McLeod of Clewiston, Florida; 5 nieces; and 5 nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his mother Gertrude Pearson (Charles) of Plantation, Florida; his father, Raymond Remerow (Dorothy) of Murrysville, Pennsylvania; and his sister Patricia Remerow Stubbs (Dan) of Spanish Fort, Alabama.
