Obituary of Huey P. Cox Sr.
Huey P. Cox Sr., of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on June 5, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 85. He was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, born on June 25, 1936, to his loving parents, the late Mercedes Dupaquier Cox and George Streatfield Cox Sr. Huey is the beloved father of Deborah Ferguson (James), Donna Gilmore (the late Ed Gilmore), Huey Cox Jr. (Shannon), Darlene Wise (Jim), Andy Cox (Tara), Dawn Droddy, Kevin Cox (Jessica), George Cox (Casey), and Chris Cox (Melanie). He also leaves behind, to cherish his memory, 29 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whom he loved deeply. Huey was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Jeannette Neff Cox and nine siblings: George Cox Jr. (Anneabelle), Mercedes Lingo (Johnny), Joyce Lumpkin (Jim), Tom Cox (Jerri), Louisiana Reis (Frank), Henry Cox (Annabelle), Earl Cox Sr. (Rosemary), Eddie Cox, and Noel Ghergich (Bert).
Huey was a pipefitter by trade and was employed for over 60 years with Local Union 60. His knowledge and ingenuity led him to invent and patent the Cox Square for pipefitting. He was a talented musician and a member of a country band, where he sang and played the guitar. Huey was also interested in computers but loved nothing more than the time he spent with family. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church for over 40 years and most recently became a parishioner at St. Genevieve Church. Huey will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
