Obituary of Thomas Edward Maurer

Thomas Edward Maurer, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2022, with his devoted wife at his side. He was 85 years old, born and raised in Cheektowaga, New York. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Maurer and Evelyn Kiefer Maurer. Thomas was the beloved husband of 62 years to Judy Gilroy Maurer; cherished father of Debbie DeManuelle, Glenn Maurer (Melissa), and Diane Bryars (Tim); proud grandfather of Rachel DeManuelle Taylor (David), Christopher DeManuelle, Rebecca DeManuelle, John DeManuelle, Olivia Maurer, Chloe Bryars, and Thomas Bryars; and brother of Eugene Maurer (Dorene), Alan Maurer (Carol), Barbara Sedola (Richard). He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. 

Thomas served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He began his early career with Bell Aerosystems Company Niagara Falls, New York and transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana to work on the Air Cushion Vehicle and Surface Effect Ships Programs as Director of Communications and Director of Training and Development.

During his retirement years, Thomas loved activities with his grandchildren, boating, and teaching family and friends the art of fishing. Vacations were spent traveling across the USA and Europe. God blessed him with the gifts of faith, family, patience, friends, and love.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Infusion Center of Slidell Memorial Cancer Center; Dr. Calabrese and staff; and Dr. Suarez and the staff of Notre Dame Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell.  A Funeral Mass with Military Honors will begin in the chapel at 1:00 p.m.  Thomas will be laid to rest in the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery.  Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
