Mary Agnes Clark Smith passed away on September 15, 2019 at the age of 87. She was born and raised in New Jersey. Mary retired from Prudential Insurance Company before taking a job as a postal carrier in her hometown of Northfield, N.J. Following that, she decided to go and work the front gate at a local city park greeting all of the park guests. Mary was an avid runner and the oldest in her running group. She actually came in first place in her age group on the 4th of July run. (We never acknowledged that this happened because she was the only one in that age group.) Mary was always number one to us.
She has traveled across the United States to destinations that included Hawaii and Alaska and also traveled to Athens, Greece.
She met her former husband, Milton Smith, on the Atlantic City boardwalk while she was working at James Salt Water Taffy and Milton was the Planters Peanut Man. Together they had 6 children, Matthew Smith who preceded her in death, Linda Duplantis, Susan Stocker, Mark Smith, Michael Smith, and Paul Smith.
Mary has 9 grandchildren, Michele Hofman, Stevie Stocker, Caitlyn, Christine and Jennifer Cataldo-Smith, Destiny Lopez, Brandon Smith, Christopher Smith, and Matthew Smith. She also had 2 great grandchildren, Frankie Hofman and Scarlett Smith.
She was very active in her children's sports from 4-H to rowing competitions. She was an avid Catholic and never missed a mass. Mary was very active in church activities. One of her favorite things was to go to the Miss America Parades on the Atlantic City boardwalk and yell "Show me your shoes!" which is a spectator tradition.
She will be laid to rest with her son, Matthew, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, N.J. at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
